The Milkweed family is known as Asclepias to botanists. With the decline of the Monarch population this plant genus has become very popular because of its unique trait of being the ONLY food source for the Monarch Caterpillar. The caterpillars are immune to the poison in the milksap and actually become poisonous themselves as protection from predators.
With at least 110 different species nationwide you will most likely find one to suit your needs. Whether your location is sandy or swampy or somewhere in between, one of the 32 species I grow are sure to thrive in your location. And yes, all of those 110 are food for growing Monarch Caterpillars. 🙂
